Look, my plans may be *a bit* more casual than yours but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to look pulled together still. Chic black pants. A timeless heel. A statement accessory that acts as a conversation starter. And always, always, always, a classic white button-down collared shirt. It’s a formula that hasn’t let me down for years and transitions well from weekday to weekend quite nicely with a swap of lipstick color or jewelry.

So when I realized the (emphasis on THE) originator of the button-down collared shirt as we know it – @brooksbrothers – was celebrating the 125th anniversary of their American classic, well I had to throw mine on in a sartorial salute. Often imitated but never truly duplicated, their Polo Button-Down Oxford has all the makings of a favorite shirt you might try to steal from your husband or boyfriend. Broken in, machine-washable cotton? Yes. Mother of pearl buttons? Most definitely. Gently rolled collar that buttons at the points? Of course! And their signature 6-point shirring at the cuff? All the better to peek out from blazers and trench coats.

It’s with all that in mind, I’d just like to pause and say a warm happy birthday to this timeless original. You may be 125, but what’s age to an icon anyway?
